Description

"The Vanishing River"

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus. An acrylic painting of a female Spinosaurus patrolling her usual riverbed during a drought.

This was originally a sketch I did while on vacation in Malaysia. It was meant to illustrate the idea (mentioned by Dr. Thomas Holtz) that Spinosaurus may have walked like a pangolin with its huge arms tucked up under its chest. Since there has been a lot of discussion on how Spinosaurus managed to walk with its new proportions without resorting to a quadrupedal stance.

Completed on the 13th of August 2015.

Done using acrylics and watercolor pencils.

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus sensu Ibrahim was one of more inflazionated paleo-sobject, but this one is particular beautyful.
The technique is astonishing and the subject is really IN the enviroment.
Scientifically Talking it is pretty accurate in both dinosaur and enviroment representing a Cenomian dry-season.
The head of Spinosaurus is very detailed, specially the rostrum, and it is artistically superb, in both shape and color.
The dinosaur is represent in bipedal contra the study of Ibrahim (which is debate and no widely accepted )but the proportions of the limbs are good and so are the sail and the tail of the animal.
